When the weather gets cold one of the things I look forward to is homemade soup. French Onion Soup is one of my favorites. This recipe is from my Grandmother. It makes a hearty meal or can also be a great appetizer. You can make it ahead of time and add the toasted bread and cheese when you serve it. Enjoy!
Ingredients:
- 3 onions sliced thinly
- ¼ cup of Margarine
- ½ cup of Water
- 2 teaspoons Worcestershire Sauce
- 2 Tablespoons Sherry Wine
- 1 Beef Bouillon cube
Directions:
Sauté onions in margarine until tender.
Add broth, water, Worcestershire sauce and Sherry wine.
Bring to a boil, reduce heat and simmer covered for about 25 minutes.
Put in bowls and add toasted French bread and Swiss cheese (or your favorite cheese) until the cheese melts.
Makes 4 servings.
